The "School-to-Prison Pipeline" is a term used to describe how the education system, through the implementation of a zero-tolerance policy, contributes to the development of young individuals entering the juvenile and adult criminal justice systems. The system is failing the youth by resorting to suspension, expulsion, and arrest for minor offenses, resulting in severe disciplinary actions that subject young people to childhood trauma. Furthermore, this trajectory often leads to delinquency. The nationwide prevalence of the school-to-prison pipeline has reached epidemic proportions. Statistics demonstrate that students of color, those facing neglect, poverty, abuse, or disabilities, are disproportionately affected by these policies. The targeting of individuals based on the color of their skin has become a pervasive issue. Notably, statistics indicate a significant disproportion in the punishment of African Americans compared to their enrollment in Florida and other southern states.
